Simon Butler’s VF750 SC...

  oh…and a few more

Simon's rare VF750SC

1982

also known as the Sabre

Simon’s VF 750 certainly attracted a lot of attention at this year’s Honda Day at The Ace.

Maybe not surprising as it seems there are only about a dozen of these that are still on the road in the UK.

He bought this VF750 SC also known as The Sabre in 2017, having previously owned 2 other VF750s in his earlier biking days.

Now with Karen riding pillion – she sometimes acts as roving cameraman on club runs – they enjoy our branch outings.

The V45 Sabre was introduced in 1982. It shared its V4 engine design with the Magna and Interceptor. The engines in the Sabre and Magna were so similar to be almost completely interchangeable except for a few fuel and carburetion-related differences.

Fortunately Simon has not experienced any of the camshaft problems which plagued Honda in those times

Simon’s biking history is so amazing and varied....

Like all of us he also has great affection for his first bike – a blue 250 SuperDream.

And fond memories of borrowing his brother’s green SS50 (they seem to be making a resurgence).

But somewhere in between those early bikes and the current VF 750 were ... (deep breath!)

some very exotic and exciting bikes…in almost the correct order..

CB750 FA used on European Tours      Suzuki 600 Bandit      NSR 400      Yamaha XJ 900

And during a 6-year stint of despatch riding after leaving the Senior Service–

RS250     CX500    Yamaha XS 400

…and how about this for a ps that brings a smile to your face…

’Hi Jon,

just remembered some more bikes I’ve owned, Laverda Jota, FJ 1200, Suzuki 1150, and probably my second favourite bike, a VT 500. Despatched on that bike, loved it. I also had a Suzuki 650 turbo for a while Suzuki XN85 Turbo…. and also a CBX550 f2 I went touring around Switzerland on.(forgot about that one) ’’

…. pretty impressive Simon !
